Who you are buying from
Line Reading is operated by Rebel Labs, registered
in Quebec, Canada. "We" and "us" mean that company. "You" means the
person or company buying a table read.
Using the site means you accept these terms. If you are buying on behalf
of a production company or a studio, you are confirming you may bind
them.
What you get
You upload a script. We identify the characters, you cast a voice to
each, and we return one MP3 of the whole script performed
aloud — a distinct voice per character, with narration of the
action.
- The purchase covers one render of one script. A new
draft is a new purchase.
- It is a one-off payment. There is no subscription,
no recurring charge, and no stored plan to cancel.
- Rendering usually takes well under an hour. That is an expectation,
not a deadline.
- Your file is available for 30 days. Download it.
An account extends the window; it does not remove it.
Price
The price is shown before you pay and is calculated from the length of
your script. We add no fees of our own on top of it.
Where sales tax, VAT or GST applies, whether it is added at checkout or
already inside the price depends on where you are, because different
places require different things. The checkout page shows the tax and the
total before you confirm, and that total is what your card is charged.
You are quoted and charged in your own currency where we support it —
Canadian, US, Australian, New Zealand and Singapore dollars, euros,
pounds sterling and Swiss francs. Everywhere else the price is in US
dollars. The currency is named on the checkout page before you pay, and
it is the currency your card is billed in, so there is no conversion for
your bank to charge you for.
The same number is charged in each currency rather than a conversion of
one of them.
Refunds
If it fails, you get your money back. Refund in full,
no argument, if:
- the render fails and we cannot produce your file;
- the audio is truncated, silent, corrupted, or plainly not your
script;
- it never arrives at all.
Email us and say what happened. We would rather re-run it for you than
refund it, but that is your choice, not ours.
What is not a refund. Not liking the performance is
not a fault. You audition every voice, on your own words, before you
pay a cent — that step exists precisely so this decision is made
before the money moves. A synthetic actor reading your scene is not a
human actor reading your scene, and we would rather say so here than
take money from someone expecting otherwise.
Refunds go back to the card you paid with, usually within five to ten
business days depending on your bank.
Your screenplay stays yours
We claim nothing in your work. No ownership, no
co-authorship, no licence to exploit it, no right to show it to anyone.
You keep every right you walked in with.
You grant us one narrow permission, and only this: to store, process and
perform your script for the purpose of producing the audio you
ordered. That permission ends when the file is deleted.
We do not use your script to train models, we do not use it as an
example, and we will not quote it in marketing.
What you promise us
That you have the right to upload what you upload — it is your own work,
or you have permission from whoever owns it.
This matters more than boilerplate usually does. If you send us someone
else's screenplay, the consequences land on you, and we may remove the
file and close the account. Do not use the service for material that is
illegal, or for content designed to harass or defame a real person.
Using the audio
The file is yours to use in the ordinary work of developing a script:
listening to it, sharing it with your collaborators, producers,
financiers or a director, and using it in a pitch.
Before you broadcast it. The voices are generated by
a third-party provider whose own licence governs commercial
distribution. A table read for development is squarely fine. Publishing
the audio as a finished product — a podcast, an audiobook, an
advertisement, anything distributed for money — may not be, and you
should check before you do it. Ask us and we will tell you what we
know.
The voices are synthetic and are not the voices of any real performer.
They are not a substitute for casting, and nothing about them creates a
performer's credit or a residual.
What we do not promise
We read your script by recognising the shape of a screenplay on the
page. Most scripts parse cleanly. Unusual formatting can be misread — a
character missed, a line given to the wrong speaker, an action line read
as dialogue. We show you what we found, and flag what looks wrong,
before you pay. Look at that screen.
We do not promise the site is always available, that a render always
succeeds, or that pronunciation is always right. Where something does go
wrong, our responsibility is limited to refunding what you paid
for that script. We are not liable for indirect or consequential
losses — a missed deadline, a lost meeting, a deal that did not happen.
Nothing here removes rights you have under Quebec consumer protection
law, which cannot be signed away and which we are not attempting to
limit.
Accounts and deletion
An account is optional. You can upload, cast, pay and download without
one. It exists so your files last longer and your cast is remembered.
Ask us to delete your account and we will, along with your scripts,
audio and casting choices. Records of purchases stay, because tax law
requires it. You can stop using the service at any time; there is nothing
to cancel.
We may suspend an account that is being used to break these terms, and
we will tell you why.
Law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and the federal laws of
Canada that apply there, and the courts of Quebec have jurisdiction.
If we change these terms, the date at the top changes. Changes apply to
purchases made afterwards — we will not retroactively change the terms of
a script you have already paid for.
